Hi students! Estou deixando a seguir um exercício sobre PAST SIMPLE que vocês podem fazer durante as férias para treinar conhecimentos e estarem bem afiados no inglês. Ao longo desses quase dois meses que teremos de folga, vou deixando aqui algumas atividades se vocês quiserem realizar. Teremos alguns games bacanas in english, postarei os links em breve. Segue abaixo o exercício:

Modern Families

Nowadays, the families are smaller than fifty (50) years ago, for example. Today, we have less time to stay at home, taking care of many people, preparing food, etc. We're just working and working (overly!) to earn much money to enjoy better the future.

But, if we work a lot today, maybe tomorrow will happen something and you couldn't enjoy all the things you wanted. We have to pay attention to this and keep calm, because life is just one. Enjoy the time with your parents, children, grandparents, relatives, good friends... We're losing touch with our family, friends, because of the modern world. We're more individualist, we have more technology, we have more money, more things and less love, less time, less peace. I hope the things will change. Not yet, but when I'll have my children, maybe things will be better, will be like in the past, like the old stories of my grandmother.

No link a seguir, vocês podem acompanhar a música, sua letra (lyrics) e sua tradução para o português (translation). Logo na primeira linha, você se depara com um ponto bem interessante da gramática inglesa: Perguntas negativas com auxiliares. Exemplo: "Don't you think that it's boring how people talk?" (extraí da letra). É possível sim formular perguntas negativas em inglês. É como no português, igual costumamos falar: "Você não acha que eu estou ficando gorda?" Inglês: "Don't you think I'm going fat?". Um exemplo engraçado, mas que dá para a gente entender bem essa possibilidade. Mais uma coisa: "O cachorro é fofo, não?" Inglês: "The dog is cute, is not it?" (Esse is not it (isn't it) vocês vão ouvir muito nos filmes e conversas informais).
Segundo ponto importante presente na canção: O uso da palavra "pretty" como auxiliar para dar ênfase em alguma coisa. Exemplo: "Pretty soon I'll be getting on my first plane.". Esse "pretty soon" quer dizer "em breve". Acompanhe alguns exemplos mais:
- This boy is pretty handsome. (Esse menino é muito bonito). -- pretty no sentido de "muito".
- I'm pretty sure you will enjoy the movie. (Estou certíssima(o) que você vai gostar do filme). -- pretty no sentido aumentativo da palavra seguinte. SURE = CERTEZA. PRETTY = MUITA (muita certeza, certíssimo).

Nem todas as palavras em inglês podem ser traduzidas ao pé da letra. Muitas palavras, podem ter dezenas de significados. Cabe a nós, traduzirmos tendo em vista o contexto de onde aquela palavra está inserida. Por exemplo:

a) Johnny is filling in a form. (Johnny está preenchendo um formulário)

b) The bad doctor is filling an exam. (O mau médico está falsificando um exame)
